Minors With Comorbidities Can Get COVID-19 Vaccine At These Hospitals

• The Department of Health (DOH) officially announces the start of phase 1 of COVID-19 vaccination for kids today, October 15, 2021.

  Kids ages 12 to 17 with underlying health conditions or comorbidities such as Down Syndrome, HIV, cancer, tuberculosis, and more are prioritized for vaccination among minors. They are now part of the A3 priority group called “Pediatric A3.”

  For now, only two vaccine brands are available for pediatric vaccination: Moderna and Pfizer BioNtech. These two brands have Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) from the Philippine Food and Drug Administration.

  List of hospitals participating in Pediatric A3 vaccination

  To register, you must first contact your child’s pediatrician or hospital to get a schedule for the vaccination. For now, there are eight hospitals chosen in the National Capital Region (NCR) to participate in the phase 1 of Pediatric A3 vaccination.

  • National Children’s Hospital
  • Philippine Heart Center

  Pasig City Children’s Hospital

  Manila

  Philippine General Hospital

  Pediatric A3 COVID-19 vaccination requirements

  The parent/guardian must accompany the vaccine recipient at the vaccination site with the following documents:

  • Medical Certificate given by the attending pediatrician/physician detailing the comorbidity/ies of the vaccine recipient (Click here for the template) 
  • Document/s to prove filiation
  • Valid identification cards or documents with photos of the parent/guardian and the vaccine recipient to verify documents presented (e.g. passport).

  According to DOH, Pediatric A3 vaccination will be done in four phases.

  • Phase 1: Start with the eight hospitals in NCR
  • Phase 2: Expansion of up to 17 hospitals for NCR — at least one for each local government unit (LGU)
  • Phase 3: Vaccination in regions where at least 50% of senior citizens have already been vaccinated, namely CAR; Regions 1, 2, 3; Region IV-A; Region 8 and Region 10; and CARAGA
  • Phase 4: Expansion of areas for Pediatric A3 vaccination based on the vaccine supply, number of the vaccinated, and other data to consider
