Kids With These 11 Comorbidities Get Priority For COVID-19 Vaccine

  • On October 4, 2021, the Department of Health (DOH) listed down the 11 comorbidities that will qualify those ages 12-17 for the government’s pilot vaccination program for minors.

    The list came from the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines (PIDSP), according to DOH Usec. Maria Rosario Vergeire.

    Minors (12-17 years old) with these 11 comorbidities will qualify first for COVID-19 vaccine 

    The said age group will now be part of the Priority Group A3. Children with the following comorbidities are among the first ones to get vaccinated in their age group:

    1. Medical Complexity
    2. Genetic conditions
    3. Neurologic conditions
    4. Metabolic/ endocrine
    5. Cardiovascular disease
    6. Obesity
    7. HIV infection
    8. Tuberculosis
    9. Chronic respiratory disease
    10. Renal disorders
    11. Hepatobiliary

    The following are the requirements of the DOH for the vaccination of minors:

    1. Informed consent by the parent /guardian and child before vaccination will be obtained.
    2. Supply availability of Pfizer and Moderna, the only vaccines with emergency use authorization for 12 to 17 years old issued by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration
    3. Equitable access to medical clearance by a physician for children with comorbidities

    According to vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr., at least six hospitals will be used for the pilot COVID-19 vaccination for children.
