Dads will do anything for their little girls — including dressing up in full Barbie costume just to see a bright smile light up their faces!

That’s what Joseph Villanueva achieved when he gamely posed for their daughter Applejack’s pre-birthday shoot, wearing pink elbow-length gloves, a pink tube top paired with a ruffled net skirt, and a blonde wig to complete the look. The birthday girl, who is turning two on Monday, August 15, looked just as ‘pretty in pink’ like her Daddy with her all-Barbie pink costume paired with a beautiful headbow.

It was too cute not to post so Joseph’s wife, Roselyn, did just that on our Facebook community, Smart Parenting Village. “Mommies, gusto ko lang i-share ‘yung DIY Barbie pre-birthday shoot namin na ‘struggle is real,’” she shares.

“Yung gusto ko lang naman ng father-and-daughter pictures kaso ang kulit ni Baby,” she wrote, referring to how her daughter insisted for her dad to put on a Barbie dress.

Many reacted positively to her post, mostly applauding Daddy Joseph for being such a sport.

Another was wowed by the whole shoot. “Buti cooperative din si Daddy. This makes the whole party memorable but not less meaningful if hindi gagawin ng ibang daddies. I bet magiging story to share ‘yan ng baby girl mo when she grows up. Ang ganda din ng set up,” the mom wrote.

Roselyn, who works as a graphic artist for an online printing business, told SmartParenting.com.ph that the family wanted a pre-birthday photo shoot, but it would have cost them Php5,000 if they hired a professional photographer.

“Sa panahon ngayon need maging practical kaya we chose Do-It-Yourself (DIY) approach,” she said. When asked why it was Dad who wore the Barbie costume and not her, Roselyn offered, “Si hubby [ang kasama sa shoot] kasi mas close sila ni Baby,” adding that their youngest was spoiled by dad.

Roselyn said that she didn’t even have to convince Daddy Joseph to wear the Barbie costume because he was game for anything. “Payag agad siya dahil sobrang sweet niya sa mga babies namin,” she says. Roselyn and Joseph also have another daughter, six-year-old Elizabeth Tyara.

For her husband’s dress, Roselyn had the tube top made-to-order for only Php150.  Because they wanted to save, they borrowed the skirt from a family friend. For the backdrop and face frame, Roselyn shared that they just cut it out from a box and added touches using Cartolina and images of Barbie she found online.

    Cherish every moment

Daddy Joseph, who works as a Shopee rider, said that it was his first time to do something this crazy for his children. He was willing to do it for no other reason than to see his youngest happy.

Joseph loves playing with his kids and would often indulge them in their favorite games. “Madalas sa panganay ko Minecraft at pag do-drawing. Sa bunso ko watching nursery rhymes na kabisado ko na rin,” he shares.

Roselyn, who has been married to Joseph for eight years, is thankful that her husband always puts their children’s happiness first. This, she says, has been one of the reasons for their happy marriage and family. “Para sa akin yung pagiging sobrang lambing niya sa mga kids, sapat na pong dahilan yun [para maging masaya kami].”

To dads who may feel awkward playing ‘girl’ games or giving in to their daughter’s whims like dressing up as Barbie, he has this advice, “Hanggat kaya niyo silang suportahan sa paraan na ikakasaya nila suportahan niyo lang. Cherish every moment with them dahil darating ang panahon na lalaki [na] sila.”
