Miss Universe PH Candidate Simone Nadine Bornilla ‘Grew Up In A Gay Family’

• Proud si Miss Universe Philippines 2021 candidate Simone Nadine Bornilla sa kanyang gay parents.

  Si Simone, 18, ang representative ng Marinduque at kabilang sa Top 75 ng national pageant.

  Ayon kay Simone, siya ay ally ng LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer +) community.

  Ito ay dahil lumaki siya sa piling ng kanyang biological father at ng kanyang stepfather na parehong gay.

  “I’ve lived with it,” sagot niya kung bakit isa sa kanyang advocacies ang pagiging LGBTQ+ ally.

  “I grew up in a gay family. I was raised by two men. And it’s something I’ve lived with.

  “Kaya I’m really passionate about these advocacies. I think I could use my voice to address.”

  Ang kanyang gay parents din daw ang inspirasyon ni Simone.

  Inuuna raw ng kanyang mga magulang ang kanilang pamilya kahit nakararanas sila ng pang-aalipusta.

  “Sila yung pinaghuhugutan ko. I’ve always seen them marching towards anything that they think is a potential success.

  “They thought about their children, they thought about having to sustain us, and that was more important for them than their pride, having people ridicule them.

  “I think if I were to ever grow up, I would want to be just as good as them,” sabi ni Simone sa interview niya sa Sam Brusas Crown YouTube channel noong August 6.

  Dahil daw sa pagsusumikap ng kanyang mga magulang, bumuti ang lagay nila sa buhay.

  “My parents—both my biological father and my stepfather—we weren’t always living this comfortable life that we have right now.

  “We went through so much in life before we got here.

  “I always just look up to them that’s why I’m always advocating for people to dream big.”

  LGBTQ+ ally

  Naniniwala si Simone na kulang pa ang pagtanggap ng lipunan sa mga miyembro ng LGBTQ+ community.

  “Though many people may think that it’s not such a prominent problem anymore, considering that there are a lot of LGBTQ+ community members in the country, I still think it’s something that we need to address.

  “Especially considering that we live in a country that is built on religious ideologies.”

  Sabi pa niya, “There are still people who aren’t very welcoming of this idea, because they keep their conservative beliefs.

  “I don’t ever wish to ever disrespect that. I just wish for everyone to educate on this.

  “It’s bad whenever there are hate crimes to this community.”
