Architect Oliver Austria Shares Hack To Keep Your WIFI Connected During Brownouts

  • Are you one of the many who worry about a power outage every time it rains? Aside from flooding on the streets and spotting leaks around the house, experiencing brownouts during heavy rainfall is definitely one of the things we dread. Not only is it uncomfortable, it’s also more difficult to move around the house in the dark, plus, losing Internet connection means missing work and online classes.

How to maintain Wi-Fi connection during a power outage

Fortunately, there are a few easy hacks you can try so you can maintain your Wi-Fi connection at home. In a video posted on his Youtube channel, architect Oliver Austria shared some helpful how-tos plus what you’ll need so you can still work from home and the kids can still attend their classes during an outage.

    Use a step-up cable

According to architect Oliver, a step-up cable can be used to connect your modem or router to the power bank you use when charging your phone. But before you buy a step-up cable, make sure it matches your router and that the amperage rating suits the cable. To check the output of your router, you can unplug it first then check the plug itself for the output.

To be safe, it’s important that the wire or cable and router have the same amperage rating. Buy one here.

    Use a giant power bank

If you’re unsure about buying a step-up cable, you can still keep your Wi-Fi connected during brownouts with a giant power bank that has at least 150watt AC output. This kind of power bank can also be used to keep a TV or printer running as long as its power consumption is lower than 150watts.

To test this, architect Oliver plugged an extension cord then plugged a TV that consumes 50watts and the Wi-Fi router which both worked per usual.

There are different giant power banks available online but when shopping for one, make sure it has an AC outlet and has enough capacity to power your router. If your power bank has 150watt capacity, it can no longer support any appliance that consumes power beyond that.

The Yoobao Portable Power Station used by architect Oliver in his video is available on Lazada for P4, 799.00. Buy it here.
