Face-to-face graduation ceremonies are prohibited this 2021, the Department of Education (DepEd) as it set the schedule for moving up ceremonies in public schools in the Philippines.
In a May 24, 2021 memorandum, Education Sec. Leonor Briones said graduation and end-of-school-year ceremonies for kindergarten, grades 6, 10, and 12 could be held from July 12 to 16, 2021.
The school year 2020-2021 is set to end on July 10.
“To ensure the protection of the health and safety of learners, teachers, and personnel, as well as parents and other stakeholders, any face-to-face ceremony is not allowed,” Briones said.
Private schools are allowed to set their own schedule for graduation and moving up ceremonies depending on their respective school calendars.
Virtual ceremonies are an option for ceremonies that will run for less than two hours, Briones said, citing the need to consider internet connectivity.
Schools can also broadcast graduation and moving up ceremonies on social media but must secure the consent of parents and learners before broadcast.
Take note: DepEd announced early registration for incoming kindergarten, grades 1, 7 and 11 in public elementary and secondary schools. The deadline is May 31, 2021.
The theme for the 2021 graduation is “Strengthening the Quality of Education Amid the COVID-19 Pandemic.”
In 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Philippines adopted distance learning for the first time as its education system as the COVID-19 pandemic restricted schools from conducting traditional face-to-face classes.
