Renewing Your Driver’s License? You’re Required To Undergo Refresher Course

  • The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has announced the implementation of Republic Act No. 10930, which extends the validity of a driver’s license to 10 years for those with no record of traffic violation. Not-so good news: It comes with an additional requirement.

“Ang lahat ng magre-renew ay kailangang dumaan sa Comprehensive Driver’s Education upang matanggap nila ang kanilang CDE certificate,” part of the statement by the LTO Central Office in Quezon City read.

On the other hand, individuals who have been cited for any offense prior to the filing of renewal application for license will only qualify for the five-year validity. The new policy, which is based on the merit/demerit system, takes effect on Thursday, October 28, 2021.

Materials for the five-hour CDE are free and available at the LTO online portal, any LTO office, and driving schools that are accredited by the agency. Other LTO facilities within Metro Manila will start implementing the new requirements on November 3, 2021.

“Para sa mga kliyenteng nasa labas ng NCR (National Capital Region), antabayanan ang mga susunod na anunsiyo ng LTO ukol dito,” according to the licensing agency.

Applicants must first fill up an application form at the Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) page on the LTO website, where all transactions are being processed.
