DepEd Releases List Of 100 Schools That Can Begin Limited Face-To-Face Class On Nov. 15

• On Wednesday, November 3, 2021, the Department of Education (DepEd) identified 100 public schools in the country that will join the pilot implementation of limited face-to-face classes starting November 15, 2021.

  Education officials released the complete list of schools via their Facebook page. 

  DepEd assured that the schools cleared for the pilot study of in-person classes passed inspection and evaluation to ensure its facilities are prepared to implement physical distancing measures and basic safety protocols.

  “Sa pakikipagtulungan ng Department of Education sa Department of Health, ang mga nasabing paaralan ay sumailalim sa mabusising pagsusuri upang masukat ang kahandaan at kaligtasan ng lugar kung nasaan ang paaralan,” DepEd wrote.

  (The Department of Education, along with the Department of Health, made sure that the mentioned schools underwent a strict evaluation to measure their preparedness and ensure that each school’s location is safe [for the conduct of face-to-face classes].)

  Education chief Leonor Briones emphasized that students will not be forced to attend face-to-face classes. Below are the schools that will reopen classrooms for the resumption of in-person classes.

  How about private schools?

  In line with the guidelines, the pilot phase will allow 100 public schools to hold limited in-person classes along with 20 private schools. Private institutions can begin limited face-to-face classes starting November 22, 2021. (Read the full guidelines here.)

  In a public briefing, Education Assistant Secretary Malcolm Garma says officials are set to conduct reviews and evaluations to identify which private schools will join the pilot study. For now, 57 private schools are nominated for evaluation. The complete and official list of 20 private schools will be released on November 12, 2021, according to Garma.

  Limited face-to-face classes in Metro Manila schools

  Despite authorities classifying Metro Manila as low risk for COVID-19, no schools have been chosen from the capital region to join the pilot phase of limited in-person classes. 

  According to Sec. Briones, schools in the National Capital Region could be included in the next batch of the program. Briones notes that the final say on which schools can hold face-to-face classes lies on health officials.

  On conducting limited face-to-face classes, Briones noted that distance learning would remain, and modalities of online classes will still be used.

  “Hindi ibig sabihin na ginigive-up natin ang ibang modalities…paggamit ng modules, radyo, telebisyon. Hindi naman iiwan natin na mayroon na tayong face-to-face. Wala akong alam na bansa, lalo sa Southeast Asia, na ‘yung kanilang face-to-face ay purely face-to-face,” Briones said.

  (Limited in-person classes do not mean that we will give up other modalities…like use of modules, radio, and T.V. These modalities will remain even now that face-to-face classses will begin. I don’t know of a country, especially in Southeast Asia, already holding mainly face-to-face classes.)
