Patrick Garcia Shares Tips For Dads When Wives Give Birth At The Hospital

  • When Patrick Garcia’s wife Nikka Garcia gave birth, via Cesarean delivery, to their fourth child–and first son–last July 14, 2021 (read here), the actor made a few adjustments. He wasn’t able to do some of the things he did when their first three children were born, also via C-section, due to new protocols imposed in this time of COVID-19 pandemic.

For starters, Patrick had to accompany Nikka to the hospital all by himself since no other companions were allowed. He had to wait in their hospital room while his wife was giving birth. Afterwards, he was given only a few minutes to stay in the recovery room, first to see the baby and then the mom.

So while waiting in their hospital room, Patrick came up with tips for fellow dads on what to do. He has everything recorded in their YouTube channel, Garcia Family, (watch here)

    Always pray

Patrick’s fervent prayer while Nikka was giving birth: “That everything will work out well, no complications, and everything will run smoothly.” Even before they left home early that day to go o the hospital, the couple prayed with their daughters Michelle, Patrice, and Pia.

    Organize your stuff

Patrick tells his fellow dads: “Mag-ayos ng gamit. Para alam mo kung saan ang gamit ni baby at ang gamit ni mommy. At nasaan ang gamit mo. Kung may place ka para ihilata ang maleta. Pero kung wala, just put it a place kung saan maa-access na madali.”

In an earlier vlog post, Patrick and Nikka showed how they packed their hospital delivery bags, which are actually two luggages: the big one for the baby and the small one for mommy and daddy. They had the baby’s stuff organized by groups and packed in resealable plastic bags.

    Clean the area and disinfect

Patrick, who’s apparently a stickler for cleanliness, explains: “Maglinis, mag-disinfect pa. Siyempre mga panahon ngayon, it’s always good to be double, triple, and quadruple sure kung saan ang place ay malinis at disinfected.”

    Entertain yourself

To kill time, Patrick has this suggestion: “Siguro kung may chance kayong manood ng TV or sa phone n’yo para ma-distract kayo, para mabilis lang ang time. Okay lang manood, so ’yun ang ginagawa ko.”

    Be patient

This is Patrick’s fourth time, so he knows the drill. His advice: “Huwag magmadali. Darating din ’yun.”

When Patrick’s turn came to see his wife and their new baby, they already named Enrique Pablo, he admits to having mixed emotions. “But grateful,” he says, smiling. He adds, “I’m proud of my wife. I can’t believe she did it four times. She had CS four times, and that’s an amazing feat. Thank you to my wife. I love you. I’m glad she’s safe, and the baby’s safe.”
