Kaaliw! We Asked Jim And Saab To Name Songs That Best Describe Their Parenting Journey

• There are so many ways to get to know a person. But one of the simplest and most revealing is going through their music playlist.

  So to get to know Jim Bacarro and Saab Magalona better, Summit Media journalists invited them to play a song challenge.

  They each have to name a song (or songs) that best describe a certain situation or feeling.

  The songs they chose revealed so much about them and their parenting journey.

  What song best describes motherhood for Saab?

  Jim joked that it’s Levitating by Dua Lipa. Saab laughed and said maybe Lady Gaga’s Chromatica would be a better choice.

  “Saab has never been more confident about herself and her body,” Jim revealed. “It was only when she became a mother.”

  Ultimately, Saab chose Johnny Cash’s You Are My Sunshine. “My kids are just really the sunshines of my life,” she said.

  What song best describes your everyday life with your kids?

  “Sabotage, by Beastie Boys,” Jim said with a smile. “Because it’s like a riot.”

  “We have a running joke,” Saab chimed in. “The boys are winning.”

  “We look at each other,” Jim said, “And there’s always a moment during the day na we say something like, ‘We admit defeat and they have won.'”

  What is your song for each other?

  “La Vie En Rose,” Jim answered. “We have a million songs for each other,” he explained. “But I remember, Saab was in the ICU and Pancho was in the ICU and I was going back and forth and we needed a win to survive that day.”

  “I held her hand while she was in the hospital bed and then we talked about Paris,” he said. “Let’s let our memories heal us.”

  “We started talking about Paris. We remember that one time we were outside this cafe having wine. I brought out an iPad and I started playing piano and we were singing La Vie En Rose in Paris.”

  “The song technically is associated to Paris, but I now put it in that moment—it was like how a memory can save you during such troubling times,” he shared.
