Every pregnancy journey is different. All parents have their own stories to tell about how they started building their own families. Newly-engaged couple Jennylyn Mercado and Dennis Trillo recently opened up about their own story, and it has its fair share of twists and turns.
Before confirming Jennylyn’s pregnancy, the couple actually had a different plan in mind about how they were going to start their own family — through surrogacy. (Read more about surrogacy here)
Many things are to be considered when planning to have a child, and Jennylyn and Dennis are fully aware of this. In a vlog uploaded on Jennylyn’s Youtube channel, the couple revealed wanting a baby as early as 2018.
However, they also knew that it wasn’t the right time to conceive since both of them were busy with their careers. In another interview, the couple also talked about not being able to conceive because of fertility issues.

This was when the plan to have Jennylyn’s eggs frozen for surrogacy was hatched. Dennis recounted in the vlog that they went through two failed attempts before hearing a piece of advice from a friend to get the procedures done abroad.
“‘Yung first time wala pa tayo masyado alam kaya medyo walang nangyari. Total fail talaga ‘yung first time,” Dennis shared.
After some research, the celebrity couple found a fertility center in Dallas, United States and began receiving treatments earlier this year.
The couple’s dedication was seen in the entire vlog, as they were flying in and out of the country, in-between locked-in tapings just to get the procedures done. Jennylyn also recounted enduring three injection shots on her lower abdomen daily as part of the procedure.
“Masakit siya habang pumapasok ‘yung gamot, kasi malapot siya…’Yung feeling na parang pinupunit ‘yung laman mo,” Jennylyn shared.
The Kapuso actress also felt a lot of discomfort after the “big day” when her eggs had to be retrieved. A visibly tired Jennylyn was seen in the vlog after the procedure.
“Paggising ko, jusko ang sakit ng pelvic area ko. ‘Yung para akong nanganak, ganoon ‘yung feeling. Kahit pag naglalakad ako… parang may mahapdi.”

“Actually, nakilala pa namin sila. Sobrang bait na couple, isang pamilya na sila. At ‘yun talaga ‘yung profession nung babae,” Dennis shared about their chosen surrogate.
All was looking up for the surrogacy plan, and a definite schedule has been set for the contract-signing and implant procedure. These were slated to happen last October.
But their story took a twist when they found out that they no longer needed a surrogate and Jennylyn had already gotten pregnant naturally. The couple still found the news a pleasant surprise. After all, it was still what they wanted — to have a baby.Jennylyn and Dennis confirmed they were expecting last October 29, 2021, when they also announced their engagement.
