Scarlet Snow’s Yaya Anita Is Back! ‘She Honored Her Promise’

• In most Filipino households, a yaya is treated like family. When a nanny leaves, it can be heartbreaking for the child they were taking care of. 

  During this pandemic, there were plenty of stories about yayas not being able to go back to the households they’re working in or needing to go home to their own families. Scarlet Snow Belo’s Yaya Anita was one of them.

  In October 2020, Scarlet said goodbye to her yaya, Anita Almedilla, who had to go home to the province. Scarlet was understandably emotional since Yaya Anita has been taking care of her since she was a baby and she would miss her terribly. In an Instagram video uploaded on that day, you could see that the then 5-year-old did her best to manage her emotions and was trying to be brave, but mom Vicki Belo shared that she had been “crying all day.”

  Fast forward to a year later and Scarlet got a great surprise — Yaya Anita came back! On her Instagram account, Scarlet, now 6 years old, showed a video of their heartfelt reunion.

  Scarlet’s Instagram post reads, “Look who’s back! She honored her promise! I’m soooo happy! @athena1974”

   When Scarlet saw Anita walk through the door, her face lit up, and she started jumping up and down. In the middle of the hugs and jumps, you’ll see Scarlet trying to figure out how to manage her feelings, with her yaya commenting, “Nahihiya ka?” 

  After a long time of not seeing someone, it’s only natural for a child to take time to get used to having that person around them again, even if it’s someone they’ve known since birth. It’s also because they feel overwhelmed with the changes and emotions going on all at the same time.

  In the video, Anita commented how big and tall Scarlet had gotten since the last time she saw her. Vicki commented, “Yaya can’t carry you anymore!”

  But in yaya’s excitement, she eventually managed to carry Scarlet and spin her around, with Scarlet squealing in delight — just like old times! Aww, we’re so happy for these two!
