Just like many parents who have children attending online schooling for the first time, Pauleen Luna has concerns for her and her husband Vic Sotto‘s thre-year-old daughter Tali.

Pauleen shared some of her thoughts and views when she participated in the “Bawal Judgmental” game portion in GMA-7’s Eat Bulaga! Vic is a pioneer in the longest-running noontime show, while Pauleen has been a longtime co-host.

The contestant for that day, September 6, 2021, is a school teacher, that’s why education in the time of COVID-19 pandemic became a topic.

Pauleen said she and Vic enrolled Tali, then one-and-a-half years old, in a playschool a year before the pandemic happened in March 2020. So Tali got to experience face-to-face classes before she started her online schooling.

The actress-host said about the educational setup in the new normal: “Malaking-malaki ang kaibahan para sa magulang. We have to prepare everything for them ‘tapos tutok na tutok ka.”

“Tama si ma’am, eh,” Pauleen said, referring to the contestant. Nando’n ‘yung kasi may relationship kayo. Minsan di niya feel mag-aral, gustong maglaro. Siyempre, nandiyan minsan yung maikli ang pasensya natin.”

Speaking of her child wanting to play, Pauleen said that’s the reason why Vic can’t sit in Tali’s online class. She explained, “Ang tingin kasi talaga ni Tali kay Vic is playmate talaga, 100 percent.”

She added on their parenting style: “Kasi, good cop-bad cop kami, ako ‘yung bad cop, sa kanya talaga ang punta. Kumbaga, siya ‘yung to the rescue. So, hindi talaga puwede mag-sit in si Daddy kasi maglalaro lang sila.”

Pauleen went on sharing her concerns about online learning: “Madami talagang struggles and difficulties, una pa lang ‘yon.

But what really worries the first-time mom is her daughter’s lack of physical interaction with other kids in school.

Pero minsan, ang nakakalungkot is kapag nakikita niya ang classmates niya at sasabihin niya, ‘Mommy, Vivian will visit me, right?’ ‘Yung parang she’s longing for that face-to-face interaction, connection.”

There’s so much more, kung papaano ‘yung sitwasyon at paano sila magre-react. They learn a lot from interaction. So, ‘yun ‘yung minsan natatakot ako na baka kulang.”

That’s where the parent has to exert extra effort, she said. “For now, you really try to stretch it.

Pauleen couldn’t help comparing what she had growing up: “Mas lalo na ako, na-experience ko talaga lahat.

Alam mo ‘yon, kasi lahat kami naga-adjust for her.

Pauleen recalled having at their home the kids of Vic’s older children Danica Sotto and Oyo Sotto, so Tali would have people her age enjoying the inflatable slide that her parents had rented for her.

Pauleen said, “Sabi ko talaga sa Daddy niya, ‘Hayaan mo masaktan. Hayaan mong medyo masipa nang konti.’ Para maintindihan niya na it works this way, na minsan ang mga pangyayari in your favor, minsan hindi. We have to learn how to adjust.”

Pauleen said she opts to look at the bright side with Tali: “Sana naa-appreciate din niya ang time na ‘to na we’re together, na nakakapag-bond kami. Kasi, gusto ko rin dumating ‘yung time na ma-experience niya na matuto siya on her own.

“But, of course, I’m very thankful for this time. Sabi nga naming mag-asawa, kung hindi nagkaroon ng time na ‘to, siguro hindi rin ganito ‘yung magiging bond namin. Of course, we have to make the best of what we have, we’re really trying, and sana paglaki niya, maalala niya ‘to lahat.”
