Pwede Bata! Here Are 19 ‘Child-Friendly Safe Zones’ For Ages 5 And Up In Quezon City

• Now that children ages five and above are allowed outdoors in areas under General Community Quarantine (GCQ) and Modified GCQ, the local government of Quezon City has assigned ‘child-friendly safe zones’ where kids can engage in outdoor play and leisure activities.

  “After months of being confined inside their houses, we saw the need to give minors a chance to go out and get some fresh air in outdoor areas that are deemed safe,” Mayor Joy Belmonte said in a memorandum released on Sunday, July 11.

  The move is in accordance with UNICEF Philippines’ call to local governments to allow children to play and conduct sports and exercise in outdoor areas, to promote their physical and mental well-being during the COVID-19 pandemic, added Belmonte.

  Children who will enter the safe zones must be accompanied by a fully-vaccinated adult — this means the parent or guardian has completed the prescribed number of COVID-19 vaccine doses for at least two weeks.

  “The adult guardian should be able to present the vaccination card and any (government-issued) ID upon request,” said Belmonte.

  Kids are allowed non-contact activities like outdoor play, games, sports, exercise, outdoor swimming, or other leisure activities. They are also allowed al fresco dining provided they are with a fully-vaccinated guardian.

  The 19 child-friendly safe zones include:

  • Quezon Memorial Circle
  • Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife Center
  • Quezon City Hall Urban Farming Area
  • Amoranto Stadium
  • Project 6 Park
  • Project 4 Park
  • Masambong Park
  • Manresa Park
  • Dapitan Park
  • IBP Park
  • Camerino Park
  • Bernardo Park
  • Roces Park
  • Hayaville II Park
  • ToroHills Park
  • Blue Ridge B Park
  • Mira Nila Park
  • CP Garcia Park

  Zone administrators will be assigned to each area, who will determine the reasonable capacity plus strictly enforce health protocols.

  As of now, there are only 19 safety zones, but representatives of other parks and other suitable outdoor areas like swimming pools, tourist sites, al fresco dining, or open air areas in malls and commercial establishments may apply for a permit with the Quezon City Business Permits Licensing Department.
