Geneva Cruz: ‘No One Should Be Shamed For Wearing Proper Swimwear’

  • What does it mean to be “mukhang nanay” these days? Or what does a “mom bod” should look like? Of course, no one feels good when they hear these words because of society’s negative connotation. But guess what?

No matter the shape, size, or whatever number the scale says, a mom bod is one to be proud of — and you know exactly why.

Mom of two Geneva Cruz isn’t one to shy away from showing off her body, yet people seem to think it’s “wrong” or shameful for her to do so.

When she posed in a red two-piece suit while paddling in the water on top of a surfboard and posted it on Instagram, some found the photo somehow offensive. Geneva addressed it in a lengthy post that showed her and her daughter in a photo.

She wrote: “Yesterday, I was tagged by a female follower on a beach cover-up that isn’t my style. I appreciate your concern, Miss, but just because a fashionista wears something, it should be what I should be wearing too. Di ka na nakuntento sa comment mo na halatang bitter lang talaga. Just so you know, I. DON’T. CARE. WHAT. YOU. THINK. OF. ME. I will wear a swimsuit on the beach or at home if I want to. NO ONE SHOULD BE SHAMED for wearing proper swimwear.”

Geneva added people should unfollow her if they don’t like seeing her photos. “I already said in the past that I would wear what I want to until my breasts are down to my knees.”

The singer also gave a shoutout to those who love the fact she does not back down from body-shaming trolls. “And to those of you who get inspired to give their bodies more love because of my posts, I am glad I’m able to do that. I’d rather have followers who see me ‘beyond the surface.’ I am never going to be everyone’s cup of tea, and that’s alright with me.”

In another post, Geneva poked fun at her detractors. “I’m not mad, it’s the sun. Life in a bikini. To those two haters of mine…No beach cover-up for me as I was busy doing water activities; it was much more comfortable wearing only this.”

Netizens applauded Cruz’s funny clapbacks and received comments filled with fire emojis. Many said if they had Cruz’s body, why would they need to cover up?

It’s disturbing to read the body shaming. If you’re on the heavy side, you need to cover up. If you’re fit and tone, you also need to hide it. Why? Because they’re moms? Can’t moms be sexy in ANY size or shape?

Every mom’s body is beautiful because it brought a life into the world. That needs to be celebrated, not hated! Your body is your own, and if you’re not proud of it, who will be?
