The modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) will continue for another two weeks in the NCR Plus bubble or in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal areas. It will last until May 14, 2021, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.
Establishments open during ‘flexible’ MECQ
Compared to last year’s stringent MECQ, more businesses are now allowed to operate in 2021 — including restaurants and personal care services — at a limited capacity. This is a bid to keep the economy afloat and provide Filipinos with jobs despite the continued lockdown.

ADVERTISEMENT – CONTINUE READING BELOWSince MECQ was declared in April 12, 2021, the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) allowed outdoor dining in malls, apart from takeout and delivery. Last year’s MECQ did not allow this provision.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, establishments that are allowed to open are those that are unlikely to cause super-spreader events.
“Consistent with science, the businesses and establishments to be allowed to open should not be super-spreaders,” said Roque in a press conference.
