Dads can be quite the handymen and with families activating their “home buddy” mode, they were able to make use of their skills during the extended community quarantine. We’ve seen them renovate tiny homes, turn cribs into sofas, and make play houses for the kids — it’s true that moms were able to save a lot thanks to their spouses’ DIY projects.

DIY dad projects

For Father’s Day, we asked moms to “flex” their husband’s pagbubutingting inside the house and they did not disappoint! From cabinets, play gyms, and plant racks, here are some of the best DIY items that dads built for their families.

Shelves and organizers

Dad Rivoli Concepcion made a front-facing shelf for his two sons! “Book lovers ang [mga anak] namin kaya ito ‘yung nirequest ko since work from home naman siya,” shares his wife, Ronna.

Hector Delos Reyes, a seafarer, also made a sturdy shelf for his kids. “Made of plywood siya. ‘Yung mga nabibili kasi online, mostly MDF (engineered wood composite),” explains his wife, Che.

John Lawrence Alcaraz made a busy board for their toddler son to help entertain him while they were stuck in their Dubai home during the pandemic. “Nilagay niya ‘yung mga gamit na hindi ginagamit pero pwede kutingtingin at aralin,” explains his wife, Shane.

“Napakarami niyang naituro at nabigay na time sa anak namin,” shares Maria. “’Yung ngiti ng anak namin habang sinasabi na ‘wow,’ super priceless.”

Mom Maria Donato shares that though her husband, Kurt John Felices lost his job during the community quarantine, he was still able to put a smile on their daughter’s face when he made a doll house out of used boxes.

Apart from shelves, Rivoli also made wooden toys for his kids! “Para productive ‘yung araw niya,” shares Ronna.

Play gym

We were seriously impressed with this play gym that dad Rouie Limpiado made for their toddler son. According to his wife, Bea, dad loves doing woodwork. “Nainspire siya lalo mula nung nagka-baby kami,” she says.

Dr. Allen Paguntalan is not just a skilled internal medicine and obesity specialist, turns out he is also a talented woodworker! According to his wife, Aimee, he built DIY cabinets for their garage “dahil hindi na matiis ang kalat.”
