Halloween Can Still Be Fun At Home! 6 Activities To Try With Kids

• Halloween may not be an official holiday in the Philippines, but it’s become a widely-celebrated event thanks to parents and kids who go all out with their costumes come trick-or-treat time. Unfortunately, for a second year in a row, this ‘spooky’ day will have to be celebrated indoors as children are still not technically allowed outside because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  This won’t stop kids from having fun though! On our parenting group, Smart Parenting Village, moms shared the different ways they celebrate Halloween with their kids through dressing up, DIY projects like decorating cookies, and having games.

  Cupcake and cookie decorating

  “We’re getting a DIY Halloween cupcake kit,” shares one mom. Halloween is known for treats, so grab this opportunity to bond with your little ones by making cookies and cupcakes together. If you can’t bake, there are DIY cookie decorating kits or sets that you can purchase online.

Make it more exciting by hiding the treats all over the house! They can also attend virtual trick or treat events hosted by various establishments on Facebook.

  One mom from our Village shares, “This year we prepared a piñata full of candies for the kids to hit!” Grab a box or cardboard, decorate with confetti, and fill it up with candies. Don’t forget to seal and let the kids smash it to their heart’s content.

  This game is just like hunting for Easter eggs! Grab candies and other treats and hide them around the house.

  Tell your kids the number of items that are hidden. With him in his Halloween costume and pumpkin basket, let him search the house until his basket is filled up!

  “My 4-year-old daughter and I are planning to decorate our home so I downloaded some printable templates online and I told her that her task is to color them. She also asked me to make spooky masks (which I also downloaded) so we’ll be doing crafting activity together and decorate a corner of our home,” shares another mom.

  Halloween is the perfect time for arts and crafts. Ask your kid to help you decorate your walls using printables that you can find on the Internet. You could also go for DIY decoration using materials available in your house. After all, what’s Halloween if your walls aren’t spooky?
