How Beauty Queen Katarina Rodriguez Is Preparing For Her Water Birth In Davao

  • Editor’s Note: Medical professionals caution against home births because of the risks involved. A hospital is the safest setting for childbirth, especially when a life-threatening complication develops, which can happen without warning. Women have the right to make an informed decision about where they prefer to deliver, but always consult a doctor to understand the risks. (Click here to know more about home births.)

Beauty queen and actress Katarina Rodriguez is set on delivering her first child via water birth, and she’s preparing for it by heading underwater!

On her Instagram, the former Miss World Philippines shared a stunning photo of her freediving, with the caption, “Water birth training.”

Katarina has stayed in Siargao for the duration of her pregnancy, and she is clearly at home in the sand and sea. Her baby bump hasn’t stopped her from heading down under either!

“Having the sunlight, ocean, fresh air and nature accessible at all times has surely helped make this amazing transition into motherhood smooth and easy… and me a happy mama,” the beauty queen shares in one of her posts.

Now that she’s just a few weeks away from giving birth, Katarina has settled in Davao, where her partner, entrepreneur Nino Barbers, is based.

She’s setting everything up for her water birth, sharing in an interview with Metro.Style that actress and fellow mama Coleen Garcia graciously lent her a birthing pool. Her midwife will also be flown in from Manila to Davao to assist in her water birth.

She admits that even before finding out she was pregnant, she had already wanted a water birth. “The concept of being in the water while giving birth sounded so appealing to me. That’s like the first thing I told him (Nino).

“And he was still iffy about water birth because he didn’t understand it but you know, I guess being in Siargao and being always in the water or near the water and the fact that the baby’s in liquid now and will come into the world and have such a smooth transition, it sounds so nice for the baby and for myself,” Katarina shares in the interview.

Water birth has become an appealing option to some mothers especially because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Apart from Katarina and Coleen, actress Max Collins also opted for this type of delivery. Both new mamas chose to have their water birth in their homes.

There’s a select number of hospitals in the Philippines that cater to water births. If you are considering this, consult with your OB-GYN and arm yourself with enough research and knowledge before making your final decision.
