Couple Builds Dream Farmhouse For Their Future Baby!

Who wouldn’t want to live in the middle of lush greenery where you can watch the sunrise and the sunset every day? It has always been Anna Monica Salamat’s dream to live in a farmhouse ever since she started working but it wasn’t until in January when she and her husband, Erick, started making steps toward that goal.

“For some reason, that dream faded until my husband brought me to their ancestral place, the exact area where we built our mini farmhouse. I’ve told him about my dream and he agreed that we can add it to our list of future projects not knowing it will be built soon,” Anna shares with SmartParenting.com.ph.

The couple decided to work on their farmhouse project as a distraction, to help take their minds off the miscarriage they went through. “We thought that it’s the perfect timing for us to fully focus on the construction and at the same time, once a healthy baby comes, we can have a peaceful place where we can rest and recover,” she adds.

Building a farmhouse in Bulacan

The house stands in a property inherited by Erick and built using the couple’s hard-earned savings.

Located in a serene spot in Bulacan where they can also marvel at the beauty of Mt. Arayat, the 63sqm farmhouse is the couple’s weekend/vacation house where they can relax and take a break from the daily hustle.

Construction of the home took three months, from May to August 2021, while furnishing took one month to finish. They hired a contractor to oversee the construction, while the overall look was a result of Anna and Erick’s collaboration and chosen pegs.

The couple’s farmhouse is reminiscent of a quaint bahay kubo and reminds them of the pleasures of simple life.

Furnished simply and with intention, the house is a special place where the couple and their relatives can take pleasure in the tranquil surroundings.

The size of the home is 36sqm and the outdoor area where the porch and mini pool are located, measures an extra 27sqm.

“Our routine every day is typical province life. The major difference here is we get to enjoy the view, the cool wind, and the calmness of the environment on a daily basis,” shares Anna.

Given the small space and to maintain a clutter-free home, they try to adapt a minimalist lifestyle by choosing not to bring in unnecessary items including bulky appliances.

A sturdy sofa set spruced up with pillows give the living area a cozy appeal. Sticking to light colors help keep the area airy and inviting, too.

“There are a lot of things we love about the home, but what tops it all would be the peace and serenity it brings,” muses Anna.

Since the house is located in a rural area where the Internet connection tend to be slow, they take comfort in the fact that once they step inside the house, they can let go of their phones and just talk to each other like the old days.

The dining area mirrors the greenery outside with the touches of green used to define the space. A round rug complements the green furnishings.

Though the kitchen is compact, they still have room to prepare hearty meals, plus, there’s enough storage space to avoid clutter.

For those who dream of building their own farmhouse of tiny home, Anna suggests prioritizing needs over wants. “It might sound cliché but it has worked for us over the years. List down all your expenses so you can track the money you spend and cut down on the stuff you can live without.

“The money that you get from it, add it to the regular savings that you set aside which should be ideally at least 20 percent of your monthly income you can live without. This would definitely depend on your needs so don’t feel pressured to save 20 percent right away,” she explains.

At the end of the day, clearly defining your goals and keeping your eye on it can motivate you to save, save, and save.
