If you’ve given birth, you’ll know how much your body changes during pregnancy and after you give birth. The bulges, stretch marks, loose skin, and “baby weight” are what you see on the outside. But if you check on the inside, some women suffer from displaced organs, incontinence, pelvic troubles — the list can go on and on!
Having children is no laughing matter, and the same goes for that pressure to get to that “pre-baby body.” You see all these celebrities bounce back weeks after having a baby, and you probably thought to yourself, “Why can’t I do it?”
In a July 15, 2021, Instagram post, singer and mom of two Geneva Cruz addressed just that — don’t trust social media to give you the accurate picture of a mom’s body.
Geneva says, “Don’t be fooled by what you all see on social media. No mommy who has given birth has perfect skin or body while pregnant and after giving birth. My stomach, thighs, and abdomen are not as tight as it used to be, but it is stronger and more beautiful because of what it has been through.”
In a series of photos, Geneva shows her stomach, a linea negra (a line in between a woman’s stomach that appears when the skin stretches out due to pregnancy), and what others might call “imperfections,” but are really “warrior marks”!
Geneva goes on to say, “The #tigerstripes, #looseskin, #lineanegra, and #cellulite go hand-in-hand with pregnancy, but I wouldn’t be who I am today if not for those warrior marks.

Motherhood is hard enough without having to deal with people pointing out a mom’s changing body. All moms have felt sadness and even despair over losing how they used to look like pre-baby. However, it takes a while for some moms to get used to, accept, and eventually love themselves in their new skin.
But when they finally reach that point, moms become invincible! As Geneva says, “A woman does not need to buy a thing to improve or change their irreplaceable, beautiful selves. Our scars, rolls, bones, pigmentations, big or small breasts, stretch marks, and wrinkles all tell a story — our own, unique stories.
“When everyone goes to sleep, we are stuck with ourselves. Let’s learn to love ourselves fully and deeply.” Amen.
