With more families spending time indoors because of the community quarantine, it was only natural that they started upgrading their homes to make it a more comfortable and relaxing living space. But because of constraints brought by the pandemic, many are opting for the DIY route — and it looks even better than what you can buy in stores!
This is what mompreneur Jennifer “Jenn” Forfieda and her husband, Neal, did for their two daughters, Jahzara Vinnie, 8, and Janeeya Caitlin, 5. They converted the girls’ bunk bed into a DIY loft bed with a mini study area at the bottom bunk.
“Husband’s work was affected because of the pandemic. Andami niyang time sa house kaya marami rin kaming nagawang DIY out of wood pallet,” Jenn shares with SmartParenting.com.ph in a quick chat via Messenger. They run a “yaya-less” household, with Jenn running a food business called J’s Kitchen.

But since they didn’t have the budget for it, they opted to do it themselves.
“Maliit na sa kanila ‘yung study table nila, so naisipan naming i-cut na lang ang bed nila at wala naman kaming magagastos masyado,” she says.

“Gumamit kami ng extrang kahoy for the base of the chairs and wood pallets na may stock naman talaga since nag-d-diy kami nung mag-pandemic,” the mom shares. “Screw, nails, and paint rin. Kaya all-in-all, wala kaming ginastos.”
