Pokwang Tells Miss Myanmar: You Are Welcome In My Home

• When you are in trouble, a mom is probably your best bet when looking for shelter. She will offer you her home and even cook for you.

  Comedian, actress, mom, and social media influencer, Pokwang — Marietta Subong in real life — recently gave the most motherly invitation to Miss Universe Myanmar Thuzar Wint Lwin, who expressed fear about going home once the pageant ended.

  On her Twitter account last May 17, 2021, the funny mom, also called Mamang by many, warmly invited the Burmese beauty to her home.

  “Bukas ang aking tahanan para sa iyo Miss Myanmar…Papakainin kita ng roasted chicken at laing ni Mamang.”

  Pokwang, who currently has 2.6 million followers each on Twitter and Instagram, is also known as a great cook. Her famous roasted chicken is now being sold commercially.

  

  It will be recalled that during the global pageant, Thuzar protested the military coup that overthrew and detained her country’s leader, Aung San Suu Kyi. During the national costume competition, Miss Myanmar strutted on stage, defiantly holding a placard that read, “Please pray for Myanmar.” She won in the said segment.

  Pokwang’s message was posted by Pageantology 101’s FB account where more Filipinos responded in the comments section, showing the same support for Miss Myanmar.

  “Iba talaga ang Pinoy. Talagang mapagmahal at maawain tayo sa ating kapwa kahit ibang lahi pa yan,” says one commenter.

  “Go to the Philippines, Ms Myanmar,” another follower urged.

  “Do not let anyone silence your voice,” said another commenter.

  More than a week after the pageant, unconfirmed reports say Thukar received a warrant of arrest from the Myanmar junta “for speaking against military rule.”
