Jollibee Shuts Down Branch For 3 Days Following ‘Fried Towel’ Complaint

  • On June 1, around midnight, a Jollibee customer named Alique Perez ordered Chickenjoy from the fast food establishment via GrabFood, but was surprised that one of the Chickenjoy that was delivered to her was not made of chicken at all.

On her now-viral Facebook post, she says, “[I] ordered chicken for my son, while I was trying to get him a bite, I found it super hard to even slice. Tried opening it up with my hands and to my surprise [it was] a deep-fried towel.”

Based on the screenshots, photos, and videos Alique attached to her Facebook post, the Jollibee order included a 4-piece Chickenjoy Family Box Solo (half original and half spicy) for Php280.60 and a 1-piece Chickenjoy with Palabok Solo (Php182). It was the Chickenjoy bundle with the Palabok that had the deep-fried towel, which Alique named as “Toweljoy” (towel + Chickenjoy).

Perez also says, “I really thought that the post complaining about weird stuff in their orders were just all made up, now I know that it really happens! So disgusting and embarrassing… to think that you’re even branched in BGC [Bonifacio Global City]. There’s a first for everything. And this has been the worst first! Calming myself down for this… But WTH.”

Yummy.ph got to talk to Alique and she was able to contact the Jollibee branch via the GrabFood rider. She asked for a favor if he can go to the branch and tell them that what she received a towel as fried chicken. When the GrabFood rider got to the branch, the rider called Alique and connected her to an employee.

Alique says that the Jollibee branch replaced the Chickenjoy with Palabok Solo, while the 4-piece Chickenjoy Family Box Solo was not replaced.

She ends the post saying, “Now I can’t even think of the other Chickenjoys na kasama while frying this. Having the same oil for how many hours after frying this FRIED TOWEL. Ano pa kaya kasabay ng mga Chickenjoy natin? You may get your Chickenjoy pero baka may kasabay nang towel. The essence of the towel contaminated the oil and the batter from the supplier so how many Chickenjoys are affected? We won’t know…”
