Sitti Reveals Cancer Scare While Pregnant: Doctors Found A Big Cyst During Ultrasound

  • Sitti’s second pregnancy continues to be a miracle as she recently revealed that she experienced a cancer scare during the early weeks of her journey. When she had her first ultrasound to confirm her pregnancy, her OB-GYN found a big cyst in her ovary.

The singer recalls feeling shocked, especially because her husband, Joey Ramirez, was not with her in the room when she received the news. It was his birthday and she had wanted to surprise him that they were expecting their second child.

“Sa panahon ngayon… whatever the doctor tells you, it’s just going to be you on the receiving end,” she shares in a video interview with Pep.ph.

According to Sitti, the doctor advised her to “wait and see” whether the cyst will grow, but also admitted that “very suspicious siya for cancer.”

After seeking a second opinion and continuously monitoring the behavior of the cyst, Sitti’s doctors suggested she undergo surgery at 13 weeks. They said that it was a wiser decision to remove it at the early stages, instead of waiting for her pregnancy to progress or the cyst to grow bigger.

“It doesn’t look safe na iwan lang [ang cyst] doon,” the mom recalls. “Kasi number one: lumalaki siya. And number two: it really looked like it was cancerous.”

The Bossa Nova Queen was scheduled for a laparoscopic surgery but ended up getting a bigger incision because the cyst was too big. Thankfully, it was a benign dermoid cyst — an enclosed sac that forms while the baby develops in the uterus.

Apart from feeling relief that she did NOT have cancer, Sitti is more thankful that her baby continues to thrive despite the odds. “Na-amaze ako sa fighting spirit ng baby ko,” she shares.

“’Yung mga condition ng katawan ko that doesn’t really make it easy [or] viable for them, they’re fighting against it,” she adds.

Getting pregnant while diagnosed with PCOS and APAS

It’s no secret that Sitti had a hard time conceiving Lilibubs, their first child. Apart from having polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), she was also diagnosed with unexplained fertility and Antiphospholipid Antibody Syndrome (APAS). Three out of five categories applied to her.

On her Instagram account, the singer revealed that she did not want to announce her pregnancy at first. She was dealing with the same challenges she experienced with her first child in this second pregnancy, which is why she considers it another miracle baby.

“But then I realized that the good things that happen in my life are not really just for me, they’re meant to be shared with others, too, especially if it gives them hope,” she writes on her account.

She tells Pep.ph that after announcing her second pregnancy, she was flooded with messages from fellow moms who were going through the same thing and who were “waiting for their own time.” They were inspired by Sitti’s post and the mom took the time to reply to each one and give them her support.

She shares, “Pinagdaanan ko din ‘yun. Every month nag-aantay ka na mabuntis ka, tapos hindi nangyayari. You question yourself, ‘why your body is failing you?’”

By sharing her pregnancy journey, Sitti says she wants to give hope to others. “Kahit may PCOS ka, kahit may APAS ka, kahit sabihan ka ng kahit anong doctor na hindi ka mabubntis, walang imposible sa Diyos.”
