Ruby Rodriguez Moves To The US For Son’s ‘Very Rare Autoimmune Disease’ Treatment

  • Ruby Rodriguez has moved to the United States to join her family and get better treatment options for his son, who suffers from what she calls a “very rare autoimmune disease.”

The comedienne and TV host explained in a PEP.ph report that her husband Mark Aquino and their daughter Toni and son Don AJ are U.S. citizens, while she herself is a permanent resident.

That’s why, she said, “With regards to have I relocated, have I migrated, matagal na po kaming nag-migrate, hindi lang ako nagpe-permanent stay.“

Ruby said about AJ, “We had to bring him here since he’s a citizen and get medical treatment.” She added, “Hindi ko ikinahihiya and I’m very proud of it—my son is a special student…

“Meron pa po siya na very rare na autoimmune disease, it’s called Henoch–Schönlein Purpura na ang tinitira no’n is the kidney. It’s very rare.

“Usually daw kapag uma-attack ‘yon, one time lang. Kaya lang ‘yung kanya, chronic, kaya rare. Kasi hindi dapat paulit-ulit. ‘Yung sa kanya, talagang dire-diretso kaya na-damage ‘yung kidneys niya.”

She also said that her son is already on Stage 2 of nephritis, a condition in which the kidneys become inflammed.

Ruby related that she was encouraged by AJ’s doctors in the Philippines to seek better treatment options in the U.S. “We’re avoiding he gets dialysis at a very young age or, worst case scenario, kidney transplant because he’s too young.

“Since kailangan niyang mag-medical treatment dito, alangan namang wala ang ina.  Puwedeng wala ang ama pero ang ina, hindi. Family first, he’s my son. Bakit ba tayo nagtatrabaho? Bakit pa ako magtatrabaho, para sa mga anak ko, lalo na para kay AJ.”

Ruby also revealed that she’s found an office  job at the Philippine Consulate in Los Angeles, California.
