One of our editors’ friends had a question for her one night. She was frustrated because her kasambahay didn’t want the COVID-19 vaccine. After some probing, the helper admitted she didn’t believe the virus was real. She was more afraid of the vaccine’s side effects.
The Philippines has reported over a million cases of COVID-19, and yet, the above is a true story.
So when Summit Media’s “Sandwich Sessions” had Dr. Anna Ong-Lim as a guest, we had to ask: What do you say to someone who seems to believe the pandemic is a hoax?
Dr. Ong-Lim, a pediatric infectious disease specialist and chief of Infectious and Tropical Disease (Pediatrics) at the UP-Philippine General Hospital, could hardly believe our question.
“I get very offended when they say they don’t believe in COVID-19,” she replied with dismay. “Because that to me, it says that people who I know, my colleagues who died, what did they die of?”
